Abstract Disaster education is one of the vital ways to overcome the gap between intention and action to deal with natural disasters. We conducted disaster education programs in Thailand (June 2014) and the Philippines (August 2014). In addition to the traditional way of teaching, various techniques were used in order to motivate students to pay attention and understand risk of natural disasters including using of an educational tool, group work, and drill exercise. Surveys along with the programs gave some insights and perspectives from the participated students. It is necessary to provide disaster education to students no matter they are in the risk area or not.
