Abstract Radial dependence of rotational temperatures was investigated for N2 C state and N2+ B state of nitrogen plasma in the microwave discharge tube from the OES analysis of 2PS and from that of 1NS, respectively. Abel inversion was performed to the spectroscopic data to obtain radial dependences, followed by spectral fitting to determine the rotation temperature. The rotation temperature of 2PS is found to be monotonically decreasing with respect to radial position. It is considered to reflect the gas temperature. Conversely, 1NS is a monotonically increasing function. It is considered that the ion temperature may be reflected in some way.
