Abstract This article proposes a multi-circuit HVDC system using a low-speed protection method for connecting offshore wind power plants (WPP), which can improve the supply reliability while avoiding high system costs and complexity. In the proposed method, all offshore WPPs can operate continuously when the dc fault while applying the reconfiguration at the offshore terminal and mechanical DCCBs at onshore terminals. This article also verifies the proposed method by experiments.
