アブストラクト This work presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculation to investigate the flow field of a vortex cup. The vortex cup utilises air swirling flow to achieve handling a work piece without any contact. The numerical calculation was carried out using standard k-ε model and Reynolds stress model (RSM), and the pressure distribution calculated numerically were compared with experimental results. It is revealed that RSM can reproduce the characteristics of experimental results better than standard k-ε model. Based on the calculation results of RSM, the flow field, spatial pressure and velocity distributions inside the vortex cup were clarified. Furthermore, a visualization experiment was conducted by using ink in water with an enlarged cup, in which the flow was observed and confirmed.
