As Computer science education becomes an essential part of the curriculum in secondary schools there is a need for appropriate tools that assist learning among novice learners. This paper presents an algorithm learning tool created for the Information Systems Course students of Tokyo Tech High School of Science and Technology. The learning tool incorporates algorithm visualization of four fundamental algorithms. A questionnaire on motivation based on the ARCS model was developed and implemented in order to determine if the learning tool has an effect on the motivation of the students. Written tests on algorithms were also conducted to determine the increase in the learning performance of the students. It has been found that the learning tool contributed to the increase in the motivation and learning performance of the student participants.
