Recently, many analytical tools have been developed for the structural design and assessment of structural integrity. For welded structures, however, application of structural integrity is relatively limited. It is becausethe residual stressesobtained bythe X-ray method which is widelyused in non-destructive inspections, are notapplicablein FEM analysis. So, it is necessary to develop anew analytical procedure for evaluation of welding deformation and residual stresses. For this purpose authors have developed an inverse problem approach based on eigen-strain analysis.In this study, an improved estimation method of residual eigen-strain is proposed. It is shown this methodcan reproduce both welding deformations and residual stressesin a shape directly applicable to conventional analytical tools.
