アブストラクト Frequency of flood along river basins performs increasing trend simultaneously in historical records and model projection results. Many studies have also confirmed that the daily and hourly extreme precipitation events rise in some extent due to climate change. However, it is still poorly understood that the increasing rate of biweekly to monthly rainfall which might be relative to the stream flow flooding. Analyzing the relationship between peak flow and accumulated precipitation before the flood peak occurs can be of great significance. This work targets at world’s major river basins, and key term is to determine under which time scale accumulated rainfall can be most influential to the peak flow of each river basin during the period 1958~2013. The accumulated rainfall up to 3-month was considered to identify the correlation relationship between annual maximum daily flow. We find that no noticeable regularity shows regarding continent discrepancy and effective temporal-scale precipitation of each river basin has been obtained. These results may serve as an interpreter for strength of association between accumulated precipitation and peak river discharge.
