Research Theme Dr Kim Schumacher is a Lecturer in Sustainable Finance and ESG at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research focuses on ESG data and impact metrics, sustainable finance frameworks, green bonds, natural capital valuation, ecosystem services, renewable energy project development, and TCFD disclosure. In addition, he is an Honorary Research Associate of the Environmental Interactions as well as Economy and Society Research clusters at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. He is also a consultant for the Luxembourg Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development in the areas of ESG project integration, green bonds, climate-related risk disclosure (TCFD), and sustainable finance. Prior, he conducted sustainable finance research as part of Economics of Sustainability and Sustainable Finance programmes at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. He is a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and sits on the ISO Technical Committees on Sustainable Finance (TC 322) and Environmental Management (TC 207). He is also is a member of the Technical Working Groups of the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB), the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), the ICMA Green Bond Principles, and the Green Finance Network Japan (GFNJ). He was a visiting research fellow at Harvard University and a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge. He holds a PhD degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Tokyo (2017) and Masters degree in Environmental Law and Policy from UC Berkeley (2012).
