Abstract
We have fabricated field effect transistors (FET) with polycrystalline thin films of a liquid crystalline quarterthiophene derivative, ω,ω’-dihexylquaterthiophene (6-QTP-6) prepared by spin-coating at liquid crystalline temperature of 100 oC, and characterized their TFT performance. The resulting polycrystalline thin films exhibited good uniformity, in which the molecules were aligned vertically on substrates. The FETs exhibited p-channel behavior, and their mobility and current On/Off ratio were 5×10-2 cm2/Vs and 108, respectively. The FET mobility was the same as that measured by TOF experiments, indicating that the carrier transport of the planar direction in the thin film was hardly affected by grain boundaries. We conclude the polycrystalline thin films of liquid crystals are good candidate for organic TFT materials.
