Abstract
The postsynthetic trimethylation of the amino-terminal alanyl residue has been found in Tetrahymena histone H2B, vertebrate striated muscle myosin light chains and Escherichia coli ribosomal protein L11. These charged N-termini are important to interact with other proteins or DNA. We have prepared the monoclonal antibody that recognizes trimethylated N-terminus and successfully applied it to the analysis of histone H2B.
