Acquiring the skills to logically write in English is quite important for the people in any field of research. This paper examines whether the participants can identify the problems in an illogical essay and evaluates the effectiveness of the problem checklist upon revising the text. The results of the present study suggested that the prior peer review trainings would be beneficial on highlighting the problems in the essay and making revisions. The results also revealed that the problem checklist was very effective. However, we need to make more qualitative analyses of the students’ revised essays and detailed analyses on the problem checklist in order to create effective materials for the training.
