Abstract In this paper, we present a comparative analysis of Japanese working adults’ and Japanese pre-employment students’ learning actions to clarify their characteristics in workplace e-learning. As a result, we found there are some differences between the working adults and the pre-employment students in learning pace. For instance, in 8-week e-learning courses, the successful pre-employment students learn more than the successful working adults in every week except the 8th week. The unsuccessful pre-employment students may be affected by encouragement e-mails from LMS, and they learn more than the unsuccessful working adults in the 1st, the 4th, and the 7th weeks.
