Abstract We report the synthesis of dodecanethiolate-protected platinum clusters by atomicity control using a dendrimer reactor followed by ligand-exchange extractions. Spectroscopic investigations suggested that a large cluster (Pt60) partially contains a metallic nature. In contrast, the small one (Pt12) exhibited a fully molecular-like nature with a significant structural rearrangement. figure Atomicity controlled platinum nano- and subnanoparticles in dendrimer reactors undergo surface ligand-exchange reactions.
