Abstract It has been observed that the spectral characteristics of plasma emission in an atmospheric-pressure helium plasma jet differ significantly between the interior of the discharge tube and the external region where the plasma is ejected into the atmosphere. Despite the observation of a broad and unique emission spectrum in the ultraviolet region upon atmospheric ejection, there is little literature that discusses this issue. Therefore, this study investigates the atomic and molecular processes occurring both within the discharge tube and in the external region.
