Abstract As buildings increase in height, both earthquakes and wind forces can affect the fatigue damage of hysteretic dampers. An optimum yield shear force coefficient distribution and damage concentration factor for predicting wind-induced damage has been proposed by Dr. Sato; it is useful for predicting damage caused by variable components of wind. However, predicting wind-induced damage remains challenging. In this paper, we analyze wind-induced damage degree of hysteretic dampers considering along, across and torsional wind, comparing it to earthquake-induced damage using a numerical indicator. The results show the need to consider both wind- and earthquake-induced responses in fatigue damage estimation.
