The purpose of this paper is threefold: (1) to identify selfish use, altruistic, and warm glow values in
willingness to pay (WTP) elicited (2) to examine their scope and income sensitivity, (3) to estimate
WTPcold which excludes warm glow and altruistic components from total WTP and pure Warm
glow conditional to no-paying for self use and altruistic motivations. We conducted a survey in
which respondents are asked to decompose total WTP into the values for self, that for others, and
warm glow of giving for water quality improvement in Sapporo. We found that only a part of WTP
for self use is scope and income sensitive.
