A new type of solar pumped laser system that is characterized by high-efficiency and low cost is
developed with newly designed Fresnel lens and a Cr codoped Nd:YAG ceramic laser medium. A 4-m

Fresnel lens collector is designed to collect wavelengths in visible range of solar light (400 to 900 nm).
Solar light chamber was designed to efficiently couple the collected sun light to a rod shaped laser media.
The laser output of about 80 W has been achieved with the combination of the Fresnel lens and solar light
chamber. The maximum output from a unit area of the Fresnel lens was 20 W/m

, which is 2.8 times
larger than the previous results with a mirror type concentrator.
