アブストラクト An optical label switch is expected to overcome present issues of electronic routers such as operation speed, processing latency, and power consumption. Optical label processing is one of the most important functions. In several schemes demonstrated, we have investigated a label processor using an optical digital-to-analog converter (ODAC). This is one of the bit-serial schemes, and it converts several serial bits to one bit with multi-level amplitude so that low power can be expected by reducing number of optical active gates. However, increase of processing number of bit of an ODAC and autonomous gating operation for ODAC processing are important technical issues. In this presentation, I will report on three-bit 40Gbps operation of an ODAC. The semiconductor ODAC has high mesa structure consisting of InGaAsP core region sandwiched between upper and lower InP cladding layers. It is composed of two MMI couplers and delay lines with the length of bit rate unit. We successfully observed seven-level analog output signal for 40Gbps three-bit NRZ label. Next, for application of the ODAC to optical label switching systems, we introduced autonomous gate pulse generation scheme with p/2-phase shifted preamble, a p/2-phase shifted Mach-Zehnder delay interferometer and a balanced photodetector. We have successfully achieved autonomous optical label processing by using two-bit-ODAC together with FPGA-based address table, and transferred optical packets through the wavelength-conversion-type optical switch using a SSG-DBR-LD and a SOA-MZI.
