Building materials include many imitations of lumber. We need to know visual similarity of such materials, because we often choice building materials from the viewpoint of appearance. Therefore, we did a test and asked assessors about degree of visual similarity between different types of samples. We knew that every type of lumber could be broadly classified into two groups of the samples. One-group has rectilinear grain and the other group has rounded grain. We estimated judgment of visual similarity of patterns by image features which was got from the sectional wave. The result was reasonably good.
