We have achieved the first catalytic enantioselective synthesis of planar-chiral metacyclophanes by means of cationic Rh(I)/(S)-xyl-H8-BINAP or (R)-H8-BINAP complex-catalyzed inter- and intramol. alkyne cyclotrimerizations.
