This paper focuses on a virtual inertia control using the stored energy in the DC capacitor of the inverters. The conventional control method has a difficulty in applying the control to the inverter for HVDC transmission system because the control causes fluctuations of DC transmission voltage. The authors propose to apply the virtual inertia control to a modular multilevel converter (MMC) to increase the inertia while keeping a constant DC transmission voltage. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by computer simulations when it is applied to the inverter for HVDC transmission system.
