This paper focuses on an HVDC grid for connecting offshore wind power plants (WPP). The existing non-selective fault clearing method has a drawback in that the offshore WPP trips after a dc fault. This paper proposes a method to avoid the trip of the WPP by using its fault ride through (FRT) capability while interrupting the fault current using the HVDC converter. Simulation results verify that the proposed method enables the offshore WPP to operate continuously and the HVDC grid can recover its power transmission in 250 ms.
