This paper describes an innovative methodology that examines the effects of other people’s noise-situations on individual noise acceptability under a hypothetical setting. Interview questionnaires were wisely designed with two scenarios attached with different levels of noise-affected people living at other airport nearby areas. Face-to-face interview survey was carried out with 321 normal-hearing residents living near Manila airport, Philippine. The Welch’s approximation tests were performed to seek for distinct evaluations on flight acceptability to a particular flyover sound. Results indicated that individuals’ noise acceptability would be higher if there was no accessible noise information. This implied that the sufficient noise provision should be provided to the public in order to minimize the future noise complaints. It was also found that there were considerable effects of other people’s noise-situations on flight acceptability. Individuals tended to accept more noise if they were informed about other higher noise-impacted people. Their intention further increased if noise situations at other areas became more serious. The findings suggested that informing individuals about other higher noise-affected people is one of the important aspects to be discussed in order to formulate a better aircraft noise management and policy.
