This study deals with the plastic strain and stress triaxiality at the weld toe in steel bridge bent corners which affects on belittle fracture mechanism during earthquakes. Eleven cases of finite element analyses that incorporate a zooming method indicated that corners with high sectional area proportion of web plate to flange plate have a highly chance of undergoing sever plastic strain history and a risk of resulting brittle fracture. Particularly the web-flange thickness ratio might be valid parameter since its effect is large in case sectional area proportion of web plate to flange plate is high.
